When a person arrives at prison, they are met by a prison officer who explains the following:
- Prison rules and procedures
- The rights of prisoners
- The privileges and basic services available at prison
- Educational / skill development courses available
- Healthcare
When inmates or remanded individuals arrive at a prison, they also get a prisoner number. If they have any personal belongings or properties, they should be handed over to a designated heir/guardian. If the heir/guardian does not collect the belonging/properties within 90 days, or if no heir/guardian is named, these belonging/properties are to be kept safe until they are released.
