Arriving at Prison

When a person arrives at prison, they are met by a prison officer who explains the following:

  • Prison rules and procedures
  • The rights of prisoners
  • The privileges and basic services available at prison
  • Educational / skill development courses available
  • Healthcare

When inmates or remanded individuals arrive at a prison, they also get a prisoner number.  If they have any personal belongings or properties, they should be handed over to a designated heir/guardian. If the heir/guardian does not collect the belonging/properties within 90 days, or if no heir/guardian is named, these belonging/properties are to be kept safe until they are released.
